Lindsey + Derek: Epic Love in Marquette, MI

Filed in: Lifestyle, Wedding

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength,

while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”

– Lao-Tzu

Lindsey and Derek could not be more in love. They met about 7 years ago through Lindsey’s brother, who is one of Derek’s best friends. In February 2016, they officially began dating. In July 2017, they wed in a beautiful ceremony held in Marquette, Michigan. I feel so privileged to have been there, documenting the happiest day of their lives.

Epic Love Story

A little backstory to show you how amazing this couple is: on May 2nd, 2016, Derek was involved in an accident. A major propane explosion burned 45% of his body, and he spent a month in the University of Michigan burn unit. Relationships are rarely tested so greatly in such a short amount of time. Lindsey knew she had to be there for Derek, and stayed by his side through his rehabilitation.

When tragedy strikes, it often brings those directly involved closer together. That is exactly what happened to Lindsey and Derek.

“Going through that traumatic incident really brought us closer and made us realize that we were soul mates.” – Lindsey

Together Forever

Once Derek recovered, he proposed to Lindsey. Together with Derek’s two boys, Cam, 10, and Tye, 14, they became a family more complete than their wildest dreams. Both boys play hockey and football, and in their free time, the family loves to go fishing, ride four-wheelers, go swimming, and basically anything outdoors.

These days,  Derek and Lindsey spend a lot of quality family time together, playing board games and doing other fun activities.  They also added two dogs to the mix! Tina is a 13-year-old lab, and Lucy is a baby 1 1/2-year-old German Shepherd.

I feel so lucky to have captured these two strong, amazing humans sharing their love!
